Boozer Newz Top Dawg and Rad Cat of tha month

We've decided that shout outs need to take place in our community to those that  are great. We decided that we will give respect to those that we love and deserve it, so we came up with Big Dawg and Rad Cat of the month!

Even though it is the end of August we thought we'll introduce our September "Top Dawg" and we will feature comments, articles and notices throughout the month as a show of mad props!! At the end of the year we will take votes on who will be SipSum's Boozer Newz King or Queen of the Year!!

With that being said...we would like to extend a congratulations to our first nominee......

Donnelly Group has several pubs in Vancouver and after visiting two it was very evident that their interest is hiring pretty people definitely not service. It's not that their not polite but not looking to make an impression either...customers seem to be an annoyance rather than an experience. We were even told by an employee that during the day we would get served by the "B" Team and to get the "A" Team we would need to visit at night...hmmmm not cool! They also do not except Debit in any of their locations and don't post it either.
Smileys Pub and Lamplighter

Moving on....

Cool art gallery we found in Gastown had local artist on display during the day and last night an after hours party starting at 11pm-4am.... very cool!

The old W from the Woodwards building. The new building is beautiful architecture with a classy touch.

Our day wouldn't be the same without a $3.50 shot of fireball and an $8 buffalo burger...at the Cambie!!!

PNE Winners on the train.....they were super funny!! They won this monkey with aTwoonie...that never happens!!

Our day was amazing and were truly proud to be Vancouverites... There was some amazing sights to see in the city and lots to do.. We only stayed in the downtown core and didn't go into a lot of pubs only because their was so much happening on the streets. It was awesome to venture out rather than sit in a pub get trashed and spend a load of cash. We met some interesting people and had a great day!! Cheers to Vancouver.

Cocktail Kitchen Series Launches

Foodists Logohttp://foodists.ca/

The Refinery unleashes our city’s creative cocktail talent in their Cocktail Kitchen Series; a six month long competitive mix-a-thon wherein bartending elitists concoct unique spirit based interpretations of various world regions. Each week a different mixologist is shaken up with a global region or country, a spirit, and then must pick from one of the Refinery’s growing list of house bitters. Now at 19 different types, these distinct bitters have the ability to transform a mere cocktail into a drink realm beyond that of a more common upscale pour-house. Along with the gifted minds of career bartenders, the spirit, and the chosen bitters, the resulting drinks promise to personify the assigned regions and pair perfectly with Refinery chef plates inspired by the same. Never has this city seen such an epic epicurious epiphany enacted. Who knows what new standards these swizzle stick swamis will swirl down our gaping maws? I for one, can’t wait to find out.
Cocktail Kitchen happens every Thursday from 7 – 9 PM on a rotating theme (see below). Tickets are $30 each and can be gotten by calling the Refinery @604-687-8001.
Upcoming themes:
  • July – Central America
  • August – France
  • September – SE Asia
  • October – Italy
  • November – India
  • December – Eastern Europe

The Foodist.ca is a great website for our cities unique and mainstream food related events as well as they have some fantastic recipes...check it out!!

Beer Cocktails

A cold beer on a hot summer day. It's hard to imagine a beer tasting better. Nothing wrong with trying though! And it seems the idea of beer cocktails is catching on.

Try some of these new trendy beer cocktails or some of the more classic variations of this entertaining staple.

Trendy and new

Michelada
Pour your beer into a glass filled with ice and add the juice of one small lemon. Add a dash of soy, Tabasco and Worcestershire. Add a pinch of salt and pepper. For some, a true Mexican Michelada is not complete without a shot of Tequila mixed in.
Booze Brews
USA Today reports that trendy New York bars are serving up beer and spirits – together- and offering drinks like the Raspberry Spiked Apple Ale made with both beer and raspberry liqueur.
The variations on this are only limited by your imagination (and maybe your taste buds). For example, the Orange Spiked Lager would be an ounce of anorange liqueur mixed in with your favorite lager and the Peach Spiked Brew; would be an ounce of peach flavored liqueur mixed in with a cold beer.
Isar water:
A wheat beer mixed with Blue Curaçao and apple or orange juice. We are not sure of the background on this one but it sounds interesting.

Classic beer cocktails

The Classic Shandy:
Background: Both the American Heritage Dictionary and UK legislation have defined the "shandy", short for shandygaff, as a mixture of beer and ginger beer, ginger ale or lemonade. This drink gives all the pleasures of beer with the refreshment of lemonade -- a tangy, tasty drink.
This old English tradition dates back to the 17th century. Although the origin is not clearly known, some believe that is was named after a local English pub where the beer was not of the best quality and was flavored with a sweet lemon mixture.
Fill a pilsner or beer mug with lager and top with ginger ale, ginger beer or lemonade. If you are a bit more adventurous, try a shandy with limeade. Don't be afraid to add ice to this drink. You can't do that with your beer.
Lager and lime:
Add a dash of lime juice or lime cordial to a light lager.
Snakebite:
Mix your favorite beer (usually a heavier beer, like stout, works well) half and half with cider.
Black Velvet:
Mix stout and champagne, half and half.
Beer Bloody Mary:
Mix beer and tomato juice, half and half. Add a dash of Tabasco and a dash of Worcestershire.
Red Eye:
Add a shot of tomato juice to any ale or lager (this cocktail is also known as Tomato Beer or a Red Rooster). If you add a splash of Tabasco, the drink becomes a Ruddy Mary.
Liverpool kiss:
Mix a dark beer with Cassis.
BeeSting:
Dark beer and orange juice.
Skip and go naked:
Combine beer, lemon juice and gin, with a dash of grenadine.
Broadway:
Popular in Japan, mixing beer and cola is known as a Broadway.
Caribbean Night:
Beer and an ounce of coffee liqueur.
South Wind:
Beer with a shot of melon liqueur.

Pop culture note

As Bob learned on episode #133 of the Bob Newhart Show, A Freudian Ship, a beer and a shot of whisky is known as a boilermaker, and three or four are trouble…

Cori's favorite Martini's always include Gin......This one is a treat

Blueberry Martini Recipe

Ingredients
splash Chambord Liqueur
1 splash Blue Curacao
3 oz Gin (preferably Bombay Sapphire)
1 splash Raspberry Liqueur

Mix ingredients in a shaker and stir. Do not shake gin as it will bruise the Gin and alter the flavor. Garnished with  three fresh plump blueberries.

And last but certainly not least the Blueberry Margarita....Delicious!! Were celebrating our own Blueberry Fest for StevePalooza this weekend!! We'll keep you posted!

Cheers  to Blueberries!!

Richmond's Forgotten Fruit

Well it's not really forgotten but fact remains Richmond is the 2nd largest blueberry producer in the world. Unfortunately Michigan holds the title but were fighting for  first. Awe Heck we got better weather let them keep their measly title.

We produce some damn good Vodka in Canada as well so I thought we might bring these two delights together to make a variety of "Lovable Libations"!

You can simply buy these plump juicy berries at the market or you can get your hands dirty and pick them yourself. Richmond has several U-Pick Farms on the East side of town. Picking them may seem tedious but the rewards are greater when your mixing your recipes. You choose the size, look, color and most importantly you can sample as many as you want.

Weve decided to infuse vodka and use for martini's and cocktailz but you can infuse any of your favorite spirit's. Rum and Tequila are among favorites.

Stay tuned were working on some delicious recipes that we'll be posting very soon. We also have a wonderful feature coming up on "The Cranberry"

Seattle just held their annual Blueberry Fest August 8th and were looking forward to Raspberry Feat August 15 at Seafair, Seattle Wa.

Keep Sippin Sum Cocktailz!!
