While waiting to start our brewery tour yesterday we had some time to kill and thought we'd try the "new place" across from the brewery. We walk up to the door and see Whet !! The name in itself is inviting. When we first walked in, it smelled of fresh paint or laquer or something like that but the greeting took away any notice of smell. (It was like new car smell but for a bar, teehee!)
We were greeted by a doll named Amanda. She was smiling, inviting and what I consider a true bartender. She provoked conversation, listened to what we had to say and portrayed an honest interest in our visit. The best part was she invited us back after the tour for a cocktail.

When the tour was over we knew we were going back at least for one more. I'm not going to lie, while we were getting ready to head out the first time around I noticed Amanda grating fresh horseradish which led me to believe she was perkin up a "CEASAR". One of my fav's.
Well let me tell you they don't only perk it up they "Represent"!! Not only do I love the Ceasar but I always look for creative touches that make it more enticing.... Look at those pics....Do I really need to say more?
It was truly a great day to celebrate Vancouver's 125th birthday!!
As were sharing laughs and enjoying our visit, one of the owners randomly comes over with a pale of mussels and asks us if we would like to enjoy? WOULD WE? Why "hell yes" we would! The presentation was awesome, the flavor was great and the gesture was incredible!
Even after sporting a "Whet" spot on her shirt due to an earlier popgun spray mishap, Amanda was all smiles and great service. I'm excited about this little visit and looking forward to the next. Not to mention our "Vancouver's Best Patio Series" is coming up and I am obviously forced to at least visit again to review their patio experience!!
Looking at a couple local reviews, here's what I found:

Review from Steve M.
Wow, What a great location! The restaurant is very unique inside, featuring exposed beams and other trendy finishes. Apparently it used to be an old paper warehouse and I like how they kept the theme. The drinks and beer they offer is like no other on the island. Not to mention the Patio is huge with a nice view of the water! The food was excellent! Most of the produce actually comes from vendors on the island which is an epic idea. This place is a must see!Review from Alexander Bromley Clark D.
From the Sirloiner to Sammy J Peppers, the address of 1517 Anderson Street just has not been able to retain businesses for extended periods of time. There is a new kid on this block of Granville Island, and it's called Whet (Kitchen.Bar.Patio). It will be interesting to see how this new ownership handles the huge square-footage of the space and being just outside of the hubbub of the Public Market.
I popped my head in the other day and spoke to one of the new managers at Whet and he told me that the emphasis within this new venture is going to be local ingredients and bar-appropriate fare, rather than steak (a la the Sirloiner) or predictable chain standards (a la Sammy J Peppers). Most of the ingredients used at Whet will actually be coming from the Island, which is a great idea.
Whet is marketing itself as a bar and patio spot as well, so they had better start advertising drink specials. I am a regular at Granville Island's Backstage Lounge for their $1.59 cheap beer nights every Tuesday and Thursday, and it will have to take some crazy deals and/or uber-delicious dishes at Whet to earn my loyalty.
I want this business to succeed, but the competition is tough on the Island. I mean, come on...$1.59 beers! That is hard to beat, even if you have one of the largest patios in the city and local ingredients.- (3)
